Item from the American Family Association’s news website:
Help! Help! I’m being attacked by rainbows!
Ah, yes, the pro-homosexual forces. I look forward some day to seeing a Ken Burns documentary about the pro-homosexual forces fighting the anti-homosexual forces, with actors reading letters to their loved ones back home, as sad folk music plays in the background:
“My darling, although our losses have been heavy, our uniforms slay and my shoes are on fleek. Love and kisses. Fab Gunderson, 11th Minnesota Gay Batallion.”
“Homosexual” is one of those words that no one uses — unless they’re a right-wing crank. Needless to say, the American Family Association has always used it, rather than gay, because those right-wing cranks … I mean, those fine, fine people at the AFA … think that the word “gay” puts homosexuality “in a positive light.”
So, several years ago, they wrote a function that would automatically replace the word “gay” with the word “homosexual” in every wire story on their supposedly neutral “news” website.
That led their website — which was then known as “One News Now” — to run an Associated Press sports story about that former Olympic athlete, Tyson Homosexual.
That’s still not as bad as the small newspaper in Illinois (the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, Ill.) that had the same policy, and published the following story about the historic airplane that in 1945 dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, the “Enola Homosexual.”
Oh really?
You can’t make this stuff up.
Using the word “homosexual” is one of those “tells,” like when someone says “the Democrat Party” or calls someone “a transgender,” that helps me immediately classify the speaker as a person who I should not take seriously.
I guess, at least, it’s useful in that way.
Something else I’ve learned (and this may seem obvious, I know) is that bigots generally aren’t very smart, which is why they don’t catch an obvious howling error like “Enola Homosexual” or “Tyson Homosexual.”
That doesn’t mean that all stupid people are bigots. But bigots generally are pretty stupid.
The AFA, by the way, is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. At that link, the SPLC has collected some of the more vile things they’ve said and done over the years. As Fred Flintstone might have said, read them, and you’ll have a homosexual old time.
